Jamie Oliver - Murder gets the headlines but Food is the real killer in U.S.

U.S. Hummus consumption on the increase!

One of the greatest "new" foods I have been enjoying more and more lately is Hummus......

I have enjoyed Hummus for years......but I have probably increased my consumption 100x in the past several months....eating it several times/week.

Maybe an investment trend since PepsiCo has invested in it???

Hummus Conquers U.S.

Hummus, once relegated to health-food stores and Middle Eastern restaurants, is going mainstream in the U.S. Sabra Dipping Co., a hummus maker partially owned by PepsiCo, is ramping up production. And that’s pushing some farmers to abandon other crops like tobacco in favor of chickpeas. U.S. chickpea production rose nearly 50 percent this year.

Healthy as a Horse?

People treat their pets...and race horse better than themselves?

Fast Food - Great Twitter tweets on eating healthy

The American Heart Assoc says eating fast food (once a week) increases heart disease risk by 20%, 2-3 times a week =50%, 80%?

What a great day!

Yesterday I stopped by Costco.

Blueberries, Blackberries, Beets, Hummus, Frozen Pineapple, Sweat Potatoes......

When I got to the long check-out line and started preparing my stuff for check-out.....a woman in front of me was trying to control her crying 3 year old. What a set of lungs....screaming and trying to escape the shopping cart while she is trying to check-out.....so I started making faces at the kid....and he stopped crying. The funnier my face, the more he forgot what he was crying about....it was really nice to shut him up! When the cashier told the woman her total, she opened her wallet and started counting out $1 bills.... $149 in singles..... WTF?  The cashier started piling the singles in stacks of $20....then placing rubber bands around each $20 stack while I am making goofy faces at her kid so he doesn't start crying again. When she finally stopped digging through her purse, she was $21 short.....so she was going to have to choose which items she didn't want to get ...so her total would be reduced by $21 .... I decided to reach into my wallet and pay her $21 difference..... The cashier and the helper were amazed, the woman was thankful, and the guy in line behind me asked me to pay his total also....I got goose bumps. I was overrun by emotion. I've given away more money in my life....and I have helped other people at the cash register before....but this time it got me. I held back my tears of joy. I was so happy that I was able to help this woman and her kid.

I got home, ate a sweat potato for dinner, while the Costco woman probably cooked one of her steaks for dinner. I love irony!

What was my reward? I woke up this morning and weighed my myself.... 298 lbs.

The first time in over 10 years to be under 300 lbs

What a great day!

Another research study and poor journalism....The Mediterranean Diet

Incredible Motivation from Star McDougall

Read the entire story......  George Sanders Weight Loss Story

I was amazed that just eating real foods could bring on such a dramatic shift in my health. As the months went by, I continued to improve and my body slowly but surely healed itself. And every time I went to get labs done, the results were better and better. During this journey I never did go back to see my doctor. I had decided early on that if modern medicine had nothing to offer me other than pills, potions and food deprivation, then I would take control of my health and treat myself in the only way that made sense to me: the McDougall way. I bet my health on Dr McDougall and it paid off!

I've lost over 106 pounds this past year. My pants size has gone from a tight 46+ to a loose 32" waist. I'm a new man: trim, fit, healthy, happy and enjoying life like I never had before. All the chronic diseases I suffered from for years are now gone. I no longer have metabolic syndrome, or pre-diabetes or obesity or hypertension or inflammation. All of those little aches and pains and issues of aging are also gone. I sleep great. I can now walk for hours on end and have seemingly endless energy. I no longer think of myself as being on a diet and exercise program, it’s just simply how I eat; it is my new lifestyle. And the results speak for themselves.
Dr McDougall's program has given me back my health and my life and at no cost. Thank you Dr McDougall!

Junk In, Junk Out

Wake up America......before it's too late!

Why aren't we screaming and protesting?

Why isn't our government protecting us?

Government is the problem....we are being regulated by the corporations that sell us Dairy, Beef, Poultry, Farmers.....Nabisco, Kellogs. McDonalds, Coke, Pepsi, Lays, Little Elves in Trees that bake sugar and fat filled cookies, cakes, and chemicals!!!

The Processed Food Industry now accounts for 70% of the calories that Americans consume annually.
Because of this, about 1/3 of Adults are clinically obese (67% are considered overweight), and about 20% of Children are obese, with about 1/3 being considered overweight.  It is estimated that by 2020, it will cost the US healthcare system 1 Trillion per year, just to treat obesity and its related diseases.

This pandemic of obesity is not something that just happened. The Processed Food Industry has deliberately made this happen and you are their victims. Because of this obesity crisis and the growing trend of more and more unhealthy food being consumed, we have created a diseased culture of totally preventable diseases (i;.e. Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, Alzheimers, etc.). This is detroying people's lives, and it is also literally destroying our country.  You owe it to yourself and your family to make sure you avoid becoming one of these statistics by avoiding these foods and that, instead, you are fueling your body in a healthy way, so it can function as it was meant to.

Currently, The United States spends 2.7 Trillion on healthcare costs, and 300 Billion on Pharmaceuticals, yet despite spending more on medications and overall healthcare than any other country, the United States is actually 50th in Life Expectancy. Even worse, according to s recent CNN documentary, 30% (750 Billion) in healthcare costs actually does nothing to improve health. However, we continue to remain a culture that focuses on "treating" symptoms of disease, rather than "preventing" it, creating a country of chronically ill, drug dependent people. Yet, 75% of ALL degenerative diseases are completely preventable with lifestyle changes. Believe me, this in no accident. The Healthcare Industry, just as The Processed Food Industry, knows exactly what they are doing and are spending 1.1 Billion per year in lobbying to make sure this trend continues. The reality is: There is no money in health. The money is in keeping people chronically ill and dependent upon the healthcare system for as long as humanly possible.

However, with rising health insurance costs, some forward thinking CEOs are already starting to take action. As a CEO, are you doing everything you can to help your employees get healthier, increase productivity, reduce your healthcare costs, and improve your bottom line?

According to the Wall Street Journal, corporate spending on healthcare insurance is expected to reach an average of $12,136 per employee this year and 70% of these costs are directly related to chronic conditions brought on by lifestyle choices.  In fact, according to a 2011 Gallup poll, obese and overweight employees miss an average of 450 million days of work a year, compared to healthy employees, and cost corporations $153 Billion in lost productivity. For those CEOs who don't think a company wide healthcare program is a worthwhile investment, you might want to rethink your business strategy!  And this wake up call is not just about employers.  Companies are now starting to require healthcare assessments that will directly impact what each employee pays for healthcare, may impose penalties, and may, in fact, cause overweight and obese people to lose their job, or even worse, not even be considered for employment.

YOU are the only one who can make a difference. YOU can escape this paradigm. Think about what this could mean for the long term health of your family, your business, and our country if we begin to make the lifestyle changes?n

I am starting week 11...... A Vegan for 11 Weeks?  I don't miss the food at all, I've lost around 20 lbs, and I truly do feel better..... Is it too radical? I feel that I really want to lose 100 lbs and live to be 90 years old without diseases or being wheeled in a wheelchair, and without medication and/or surgery..... If anyone has a better suggestion....let me know... Besides, I am really enjoying the new healthier foods and want to wear normal size clothes again!
