Help! I've fallen and can't get up!

When I first saw the documentary, Forks over Knives I weighed almost 350lbs

Hui and I traveled to see one of the stars of the film, Dr McDougal, at a retreat in Costa Rico. 

I started my journey back to health…..People made fun of me….I got all the stupid comments, “Where do you get your protein from”?

I continued and with Hui’s support and after losing 30lbs being 90% compliant. I took my Mom & Dad to Santa Rosa to attend his 10 day retreat.

After another year I got under 300lbs……. I hit a wall…I wasn’t cheating…But I was drinking too many “Veggie Drinks”, Bagels, Pasta….all sugary starches that my body turned to sugar.

I was losing weight, but my glucose was out of control….My doctor sent me to a Nutritionist and they both recommended to stop the VEGAN WFPB “FOO_FOO” DIET….. They suggested the Mediterranean and South Beach diets. It was frustrating because they never saw “Forks over Knives” and never heard of Dean Ornish, McDougall, or the China Study

I didn’t want to keep getting worse or start taking Insulin……so I decided to take it a step further and try Water Fasting at the Santa Rosa Fasting Clinic, True North.

True North is truly a place for healing…..the first time I went, I fasted for 10 days…Water Only.

I never thought I could do it, but they are “healers”…... and some people are desperately in need of a miracle……. suffering from Diabetes, Cancer, Prostate Problems, Kidney Disease.

After getting under 270lbs… I felt like I was finally on my way…… My sugar levels starting getting better…BP was good

Unfortunately, my food addiction is strong and as I traveled on Cruises, trips to Europe, and Thailand…. I started slipping away from everything I learned and started eating the same things that got me sick.

Last year when I returned from Bangkok, I was over 300lbs again….. I was depressed and tried to go “vegan” and i just couldn’t do it…. It takes focus and commitment. “Trying" does not get it done. I would have meatless days, but still ate too much….. So I tried a Hail Mary and went KETO….. MEAT, MEAT, MEAT and veggies….Keto…Keto…Keto

I lost weight and felt great ……and got the best glucose sugar levels Ive had in years 100 and my A1C was out of the danger Diabetes levels.

I bought books and listened to KETO Podcasts and felt like I finally unlocked the secret to weight control success…Sugar Good….. Weight good…Feel Good and got under 280lbs again.

Keto is great….for a short period of time…..but is difficult to stay compliant…..eating eggs, butter, Olive oil, Meat sticks, cold cuts, cheese

I started getting very CONSTIPATED and was taking all sorts of fiber and laxatives…..and the thought of all that fat running through my arteries and clogging me up….and started re-watching Dr Greger videos….. I just gave up and started eating everything again…..Hitting 300lbs again.

The bottom line…...I’m convinced that the best lifestyle for optimal health is WFPB Vegan……. Jim is truly an Inspiration and I am WFPB again for 10 days and enjoying some of the best POOPS I've had in years! I hope I can continue my focus….I've lost a few pounds already and feel great…..It isn’t hard to do when you are focused…Its like a challenge to fight for my life…

Why the letter?  I am Facebook friends with Rusty Brooks (a former professional wrestler) and have watched his body deteriorate over the past few years from diabetes…..

He started on insulin….when his Kidneys started failing, they placed him on Dialysis, today they are amputating his toes.

Changing to a Vegan Diet is EXTREME….but according to the scientific evidence it can reverse Heart Disease and Diabetes and might be able to prevent Cancers (especially Prostate) and Dementia.

After falling in the shower and splitting my head open and spraining my fingers last weekend…It re-enforces my desire to lose weight and get healthyI   

If anyone wants to go to the Water Fasting or McDougal Retreat……I will go with you …I promise you it will be a life changing experience.

Diabetes has been slowly KILLING ME!

I started my path to healthy living after watching the documentary, Forks over Knives.

At 343lbs. I decided to attend a retreat in Costa Rico with Dr. John McDougall, one of the stars of the documentary. He presented the "facts" of eating a healthy based on a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) diet. I followed it very strictly in the beginning and lost a chunk of weight.....

Based on eating WFPB, stopping Salt, Sugar, Fat, processed foods, along with stopping smoking and drinking alcohol.....I lost around 40lbs

I love Dr McDougall.... He (and his team) is passionate and committed to helping people get healthy.

2015

When my brother Jack got sick and was hospitalized for (2) months, the family stayed at the Hospital 24/7 and we did not always eat healthy. I stayed "Vegan", but did not realize how poorly I was eating?  I would buy a few "Green Juices".... "Cold Pressed" every day. Not realizing they were really mostly Apple Juice for sweetness, and my body turning them into sugar water. We ate bagels almost every day. We grabbed a slice or two of Pizza for lunch, scrapping the cheese off to stay away from the fat. For dinner it was usually pasta or Chinese food with lots of rice..... I even drove to Wendy's for Baked Potatoes, sometimes eating 3-4 for dinner.

Without knowing it, thinking I was staying true to Dr McDougall's health WFPB recommendations, I was consuming too much food that my body converted to sugar..... I wasn't feeling good and decided to go to my doctor. After the blood Glucose reading of over 300 and an A1C of 9.8 he prescribed Metformin and sent me to an Endocrinologist that prescribed more medications and sent me to a nutritionist.

I asked the nutritionist what the thought of the documentary, Forks over Knives? She said she never heard of it. I wondered how a professional in the health industry have never heard of the most important health related information? How could I take anything seriously from someone that was not up to date on the lates studies? She suggested dropping the WFPB diet and start a "Well balanced" calorie based eating plan.... Eat less, Burn more...and stop smoking cigars.

Why should I stop cigars? Besides the obvious health risks, how does cigar smoking effect diabetes?
The Endocrinologist didn't have a good reason, and instead wanted detailed blood glucose tracking....pricking my finger before and after meals. This data would give her information to help her prescribe the medicine and dosage to lower my blood sugar.... BUT NO INFORMATION TO CURE MY DIABETES... THERE IS NO CURE....IT IS A PROGRESSIVE DISEASE THAT MUST BE MANAGED WITH MEDICATION.

FUCK HER.... I did not like her. She graduated from a medical school that gave NO HEALTH TRAINING.....NO FOOD OR NUTRITION INFORMATION.... EAT LESS, BURN MORE!

DIABETES HEALTH CARE..... PRESCRIBE MEDICINE.... PATIENT EVENTUALLY GOES BLIND... EVENTUALLY AMPUTATE LIMBS.... EVENTUALLY HAVE A HEART ATTACK/STROKE and DIE
