Diabetes has been slowly KILLING ME!

I started my path to healthy living after watching the documentary, Forks over Knives.

At 343lbs. I decided to attend a retreat in Costa Rico with Dr. John McDougall, one of the stars of the documentary. He presented the "facts" of eating a healthy based on a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) diet. I followed it very strictly in the beginning and lost a chunk of weight.....

Based on eating WFPB, stopping Salt, Sugar, Fat, processed foods, along with stopping smoking and drinking alcohol.....I lost around 40lbs

I love Dr McDougall.... He (and his team) is passionate and committed to helping people get healthy.

2015

When my brother Jack got sick and was hospitalized for (2) months, the family stayed at the Hospital 24/7 and we did not always eat healthy. I stayed "Vegan", but did not realize how poorly I was eating?  I would buy a few "Green Juices".... "Cold Pressed" every day. Not realizing they were really mostly Apple Juice for sweetness, and my body turning them into sugar water. We ate bagels almost every day. We grabbed a slice or two of Pizza for lunch, scrapping the cheese off to stay away from the fat. For dinner it was usually pasta or Chinese food with lots of rice..... I even drove to Wendy's for Baked Potatoes, sometimes eating 3-4 for dinner.

Without knowing it, thinking I was staying true to Dr McDougall's health WFPB recommendations, I was consuming too much food that my body converted to sugar..... I wasn't feeling good and decided to go to my doctor. After the blood Glucose reading of over 300 and an A1C of 9.8 he prescribed Metformin and sent me to an Endocrinologist that prescribed more medications and sent me to a nutritionist.

I asked the nutritionist what the thought of the documentary, Forks over Knives? She said she never heard of it. I wondered how a professional in the health industry have never heard of the most important health related information? How could I take anything seriously from someone that was not up to date on the lates studies? She suggested dropping the WFPB diet and start a "Well balanced" calorie based eating plan.... Eat less, Burn more...and stop smoking cigars.

Why should I stop cigars? Besides the obvious health risks, how does cigar smoking effect diabetes?
The Endocrinologist didn't have a good reason, and instead wanted detailed blood glucose tracking....pricking my finger before and after meals. This data would give her information to help her prescribe the medicine and dosage to lower my blood sugar.... BUT NO INFORMATION TO CURE MY DIABETES... THERE IS NO CURE....IT IS A PROGRESSIVE DISEASE THAT MUST BE MANAGED WITH MEDICATION.

FUCK HER.... I did not like her. She graduated from a medical school that gave NO HEALTH TRAINING.....NO FOOD OR NUTRITION INFORMATION.... EAT LESS, BURN MORE!

DIABETES HEALTH CARE..... PRESCRIBE MEDICINE.... PATIENT EVENTUALLY GOES BLIND... EVENTUALLY AMPUTATE LIMBS.... EVENTUALLY HAVE A HEART ATTACK/STROKE and DIE
